ITSC provides high-performance computing service to researchers.  The service is supported with the strategy based on the Purdue community cluster model which is widely adopted by research universities in the US.  Basically, the Schools or Departments contribute funding, ITSC coordinates a joint purchase and provides the data center hosting and the system administration services.  Contributors do not own the hardware.  They have priority to use their contributed portion.  However, if their portion is idle, it can be used by others to improve the overall cluster utilization. The cluster runs with a lifespan of five years.  After that, it will be subjected to the retirement review.

Currently ITSC has the following high-performance computing clusters available to the university community.

The HPC1 cluster, established in Fall 2012 with upgrades in 2014, is designed to cater for CPU-intensive computational jobs. It is open to all approved university researchers but School of Science users have higher access priority.

The GPU cluster, established in Fall 2012 with upgrades in 2014, is designed to cater for computational jobs requiring coprocessor support. It is open to all approved university researchers but School of Engineering users and some collaborating research groups have higher access priority.

The HPC2 cluster, established in Fall 2016, is designed to cater for CPU-intensive computational jobs and jobs requiring GPU coprocessor support.  It is open to all approved university researchers but School of Science and Engineering users have higher access priority.
