A1. Can I connect to the SSL VPN service on Windows RT devices?

Only Windows RT 8.1 devices can connect to our SSL VPN service with the unofficial client provided in Windows RT 8.1. You need to upgrade your Windows RT device to Windows RT 8.1 for the SSL VPN connection. The setup procedures are as follows:

  1. Open right side Charm Bar
  2. Click Settings
  3. Click Change PC settings
  4. Click Network
  5. Click Add a VPN connection
  6. Select VPN provider: Juniper Networks Junos Pulse
  7. Enter Connection name: HKUST SSL VPN
  8. Enter Server name: remote.ust.hk
  9. Unclick Remember my sign-in info
  10. Click Save

After the setup above, you can connect to our SSL VPN service in the menu where you connect to the WiFi service.

A2. Can I access library’s electronic resources off-campus using the SSL VPN service only without connecting to the EZProxy provided by library?

No, you still need to use the EZProxy to access library’s electronic resources from off-campus computers.

A3. On iOS 11.3, Pulse Secure is prompting “The server is not responding” after authentication with Duo?

You can use Apple’s 3D Touch feature by pressing on the Duo notification to trigger the approval option.

For those iOS devices without 3D Touch feature, you can logon at remote.ust.hk on Safari first and press VPN to launch the connection.
