Student Guide - How to join a Zoom Webinar Online Class

Please note, the website https://zoom.cn is not related with the Zoom Service we are using. Please note and do not visit this website by mistake. 

Proper Zoom websites are https://zoom.com, https://zoom.us and https://zoom.com.cn.

This document is for students who want to join HKUST Zoom Webinars Online Class.

Preparing your platform

  1. Students can join a Zoom Webinar with your iPhones, iPads, Androids, PC or Mac. Students are recommended to use headsets/headphones for enhancing the listening experience.
  2. Before attending your Online Classes, students are advised to download and install the necessary tools beforehand:
    • Point your web browser to https://zoom.com/download. This will open up the download page of Zoom. (Note: Try https://zoom.com.cn/download if you are in Mainland China).
    • For Mobile phones, iPads & Android, locate and install the ZOOM Cloud Meetings app from App Store or Play Store.
    • For PC and Mac, download and install the Zoom Client for Meetings.

Student attending the Online Class via Zoom webinar

  1. You should have received an invitation from your course instructor and a Webinar ID will be given, e.g. 485 062 247
  2. Start the installed Zoom Client program on your PC, Mac, Apple iPad/iPhone or Android.
  3. Click on the Join button. The system will prompt for the Meeting ID.
  4. Type in the Webinar ID as provided by your instructor. Also type in your Name in the space provided and click the Join button. The system will proceed joining the specific Webinar. 
  5. If your instructor has setup a password for the Webinar, the system will prompt for it. Type in the Password given by the instructor and continue.
  6. You are in.

Student viewing already recorded Online Class via Zoom webinar

    1. You should have received an video sharing link from your course instructor, the link should look like https://zoom.us/...... You should be able to view the recorded session by opening the link with the browser.
    2. In case you are in Mainland China, you may have difficulties in opening the above link. Please replace the https://zoom.us/... in the above link with https://zoom.com.cn/... and try again.
