myPortal - Customizing myPortal


Channel Subscription

Channels (individual applications under myPortal) are developed by different departments or offices providing online services and information to user. When you first login to "myPortal", you will note that there are a number of preselected channels (e.g. the People / Department Search Channel) under different tabs (or pages) such as the Home tab page.

With the portal technology, you can subscribe to channels that you are interested or remove any unnecessary channels from those tabs that are not locked.

Add (or subscribe ) a channel:
  1. Click Change Content on the top right corner of the screen.

  2. Click the tab that you want to add a new channel such as the My New Tab in example below (except for tabs with a lock).
  3. Click Add Channel.
  4. Search or browse to your required channel and then click on the link of the channel, e.g. Department Search in the example below:
  5. Click AddChannel under your desired channel.
  6. Choose your desired location by click on Add Channel Here.
  7. Click Finished Changing Content upon finished.
Remove (or un-subscribe) a channel:
  1. Click Change Content on the top right corner of the screen.
  2. Simply click on the Remove Channel (the red "X" ) on the top right corner of the channel.
  3. Click Finished Changing Content upon finished.

Customize the Layout

Apart from subscribe / un-subscribe channels, you can customize your preferred layout by moving the channels around, add new tabs, etc.
Move a Channel
  1. Click Change Content on the top right corner of the screen.
  2. Click the tab under which you want to move the channel.
  3. Simply click on the Move buttons subsequently if you move channels within the same tab.

  4. Click Finished Changing Content upon finished.
Add a New Tab
  1. Click Change Content on the top right corner of the screen.
  2. Click Add Tab.
  3. Enter a name for the new tab.
  4. Select a position for it.
  5. Click Finished Changing Content upon finished.
Remove a Tab
  1. Click Change Content on the top right corner of the screen.
  2. Click the tab that you want to remove.
  3. Click on the Remove Tab button (the red "X" ).

  4. Click Finished Changing Content upon finished.
Modify a Tab
User may rename the tab, or move a tab to a different position. To modify a tab, simply
  1. Click Change Content on the top right corner of the screen.
  2. Click the tab that you want to modify.
  3. Type the new tab name and click on the Save Name button if you want to rename a tab.
  4. Click on the specific Move Tab (the green arrow) button to move it to the right or left.
  5. Click Finished Changing Content upon finished.
Arrange Tab Layout
A. Add column
  1. Click Change Content on the top right corner of the screen.
  2. Click the tab that you want to modify.
  3. Click Add Side Column.

  4. Click Finished Changing Content upon finished.
B. Remove column
  1. Click Change Content on the top right corner of the screen.
  2. Click the tab that you want to move a column.
  3. Click on the Remove Side Column button (the red "X" ).
  4. Click Finished Changing Content upon finished.

Revert to Default Layout

In certain occasion that you may want to revert your customized layout (e.g. customized tabs, columns and channels) and use the default layout, you can choose this option.
  1. Click Settings on the top right corner of the screen.
  2. Select Reset myPortal Settings and follows the instructions.

Please note that this option is irreversible. All your previous customization will be lost after choosing this option.
